DBC and NAD

On the one hand, we have the DBC, which recognizes the issues and has taken action. The DBC members are also the ones who sent a wake-up call to the NAD, big time. The DBC is welcoming the NAD with an open arm to work together to promote ASL. I've paid close attention in order to sure that the DBC is on the right track, because I do not want DBC later, down the road to fall into same mistake that the NAD has made. The DBC is now providing a good example that NAD needs to follow and the NAD is an example to the DBC, showing what mistakes should be avoided. The DBC and the Deaf community will push the NAD, so that it can become the best organization that serves all the different Deaf issues combined. Finally, the Deaf community will continue to provide its view that we want to see those organizations of Deaf people grow into becoming strong organizations. The more healthy voices we have, the more our organizations of Deaf people will become stronger. It is same thing with America as a whole. The more Americans provide a healthy voice, the more America becomes stronger.

Please make room for DBC to grow with compassion, and at same time we should have realistic expectations for them to grow into a great organization for Deaf babies and Deaf children.

I'll two more vlogs about "the lighthouse" and a "Dirt Pail" as I promised. These vlogs will not have transcripts. These are stories that I got from my very good friend and I always think about them, whatever I am going through. It's good to refresh one's memory about these stories. It's good to remember...

Aidan, you bring up good points, but you brought up a point that got my attention. While I agree that they should work with NAD and all that.

But when you say "on the right track, don't you think their mission, being to reach out to hearing parents of deaf babies, would have been better accomplished if they also worked with AG Bell too? Considering the fact that they are the organization that has the widest access to hearing parents of deaf children.

Vahallian,

I think that the concerned Deaf citizens do want to reach out to the hearing parents of Deaf babies, but AGBell got the "Berlin Wall" up that these parents have the mental block set up in their head and can't be comprehended about cognitive development skills and thinks that speech development skills is more important than the mind of the child.

Hi Aidan,

I hope you answer my question.
Did DBC invite NAD come over there last June that DBC host?
Or is NAD just went there by themself.
However I don't know if you went there saw your own eye what going on.
I hope hear from you Aidan.

Thanks
Davy

Your idea about DBC and NAD working together is splendid, yet I am a bit wary about having the same contributors from
NAD ASL Think Tank (http://aslthinktank.com/about/) move in and become the long-term contributors of DBC. Of course, DBC ASL contributors and NAD ASL contributors can freely exchange their ideas, but let's let the DBC have its own new blood of its own. No need for duplicate list of contributors.

I have found DBC to be the best place in its website in providing valuable information for parents of deaf babies all around the year. What more can we ask for both of them -- babies and parents?

anonymous,

If that is the case, then how was the Berlin wall set up? I think readers, myself included, had asked for documentation showing that formal discussion between DBC and AG Bell were denied by AG Bell, considering the fact that their president said that they have never been formally approached by DBC.

Considering the fact that no such documentation has been shown, I am more inclined to beleive their president than I would believe the DBC leaders. I also said in previous blogs, that if I saw such proof of a valid documentation, it would change the way I think about all this.

It's been a month and no documentation. If they actually had the documentations, I would imagine that they would have posted it immediately to prove their case.

Ok, so that being the case, there is no documentation, what other reason did AG Bell have to put up a "Berlin Wall". Only thing that comes to mind as a reason is because of last year's protest. This year, they simply went on the defense because the message got out that they were not nuetral about the other communication modes.

If you can think of another valid reason for this "Berlin Wall" going up, please share it. Like you, I do want to see bilingualism among deaf babies, but I also want to see it done in the most effective way possible.

If you can think of a more effective way than allying ourselves with AG Bell, please share that as well.

Davy,
Where have you been? Yes DBC invited NAD to their conference last June. Bobbie Beth Scoggins, President of NAD, was the keynote speaker. She spoke on Early Intervention.

Valhallian,

The "Wall" is the "Wall of Ignorance" that AG Bell built that prevents hearing parents from learning the truth about the value of ASL.

You misunderstood what it means.

anonymous, If DBC had played their cards right and actually had a booth inside the ag bell conference, they would have been able to take down this wall as you call it.
