Interesting idea, Aidan, of having NAD become something of a "Deaf U.N." (there is one already -- WFD, but I understand what you are saying here). At the Deaf Studies Today! conference this year, they had a speaker from Ghana who is the President of their Association of the Deaf, and it seems in Ghana, the Association of the Deaf is in a coalition with the Association of the Blind and the Assn. of the Disabled. This coalition works with the Government to present laws to support these groups. I asked him how they are able to reconcile their different agendas. He said that they all had to meet together and agree on what they wanted to present to the government BEFORE they presented it. It was very interesting to learn about. I don't know if such an arrangement could work between the different Deaf groups, but it might be worth considering.

I still believe NAD, DBC, AGB and other Deaf organizations CAN make arrange for the Deaf convention.
All the organizations need to discuss the important issues together instead withheld the secretive information. We aren’t fighting over the territory land or build the nuclear plant... We are the human being! I don’t care who came up the issue first or last.

Invite some of US Senates and House of Representatives, Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation, DHHS. etc etc to the convention. They need to listen our VOICE about education, social issues, services etc etc.

It will resolve the issues in step by step slowly.

Aidan -

That was an awesome vlog! Like Ben says, you are one of the best vloggers. Can't wait to read/watch the others.

Ummm... You know that is a tough nut to crack. Unity. like Deb Ann says. Inclusive of any person, like you said. Are all valid.

But, as long as there are deaf that look down on others... I mean, geez, we have only been here 2 years and we have already got deaf enemies - it is sick. You know the Mayes' history, it basically sucks from a social point of view, but we move on and continue to try.

As long as we have people like you around things will get better. Just that deaf leaders need to be open-mind and open-heart and then people will contribute and listen, so it is really up to them.

I have to disagree with my husband's comment. We have friends... my kids are happy living in Indiana... etc. I don't know why he said that, but then he has a full time job and has little time for socialization. We are more settled in Indiana as we approach 3rd year of living here in IN.

I can only say, be humble to you and others that would ease down their ego of what they are or think they are superior to others. We all need to be humble and gain increase awareness of respect to diversity of all kinds thus that would build a stronger unity of diverse people speaking for one thing, not against it. Alas, we all want deaf babies and deaf children to succeed in literacy (reading and writing) thus that is ASL-English Bilingual approach to both cultures. That is, what DBC is trying to do from my perspective and understanding as trying to get deaf community together regardless of their hearing loss or communication range they use because we all know that sign language is the key to language acquisition. I am Deaf and from a hearing family and was raised oral, SIM COM, and ASL at young age. My parents still today does not sign to me. Which is sad but still I love them because they are my parents. Accept others and start collaborating to work as a team for one goal: ASL for all deaf babies and young children and family must use ASL for language interaction to lead a better language acquisition through visual language. Hearing babies get their language interaction and acquisition through audio. If there is rejection going on then it still does not make sense to me. I agree with Aidan, Inclusion all range of diversity deaf people because we are all deaf and there is no such thing to be an ego about it.
