There are three videos on my vlog. I have discussed the first video of the participation the team of Deaf Bilingual Coalition that was formed by John Egbert. The second video is about the history of AGB and the quotes from AGB that proved he had a goal to eliminate the Deaf community and Sign Language. The quotes from AGB was in the book of “When The Mind Hears: A History of the Deaf" by Harlen Lane. The third video is to inspire people to look back that we had a peaceful Gallaudet March. We will do the same at AGB conference.

An eye opener for AGB clip. AGB and Nazi connection give me the chills still. An insane proposition that fell thru, thanks God. But, the search to cure loss of hearing is still ongoing today.

Excellent reminders of why the Deaf community is struggling nowadays...The video on the Gallaudet March is very interesting to watch after 8 months...with renewed eyes looking towards the first historical symbolic protest against the Deaf Colonialism (Oralims) led by AGBell July 27 & 28...I can visualize the protest eventually overthrowing something much much bigger than JFK...will be much much tougher but we have built ourselves some good confidence! Onward we go towards our vision for a better, freer world for our future Deaf children!

Ok- RE: the agBAD protest, you are right! It's time to get out of our comfort zone of Deaf Against Deaf, and go after the root of the problem, which is the anti-language and anti-Deaf human rights ideology of AGB and his organization. (Very telling-- AGB called a Deaf child "it".)
Last, while you described Eugenics beautifully and made the connections... I'd like to point out that Eugenics is STILL ALIVE today. Patrick Boudreault presented on "Neo-Eugenics And the Deaf"-- which was SHOCKING for me. I highly recommend you contact him and have him explain this further. Basically, Eugenics is still alive in a new form= "Neo-Eugenics" (genetics, implants, etc.)

Hi... I enjoyed watching the Gallaudet documentary.
Hmmm... AGB clip was an interesting piece of history, but that is all it is... just history. It has nothing to do with today. AGB's goal is no longer to exterminate us deaf people...in fact, some people would tell you that history is past; AGB has evolved (so far it has acknowledged sign language, so it has NOT entirely rejected sign language.) We have to look at the facts... in a decade or so, at least 80% of deaf population will have CI's or better technological devices, etc. Shane Feldman's has been blogging about it (part I and II on oralism vs. ASL, in the DeafDC.com.)

Hi Adian, I agree with Ella’s comment. Thanks for bringing it up and we, Deaf people, realize who the real AGB was. Unfortunately, many hearing people and Oral-deaf honor AGB because he invented the telephone. So he had advantages with those people (or used them) to support his comments/quotes about Culturally Deaf people. He tried to destroy Culturally Deaf people and Deaf Community. It won’t happen but we still struggle with that. I support that we should protest against the Deaf Colonialism led by AGBell July 27 & 28.
White Ghost, Yes, indeed AGB broke some laws. Where did you get that information about AGB that he escaped to Canada because of lawbreaking? My understanding is that AGB moved back to Canada to make them to recognize his invention of telephone and he settled in a retirement home in Nova Scotia. I don’t think that he ‘escaped’ to Canada because he broke the laws in America. AGB’s family moved from Scotland to Canada and lived in Brantford, Ontario when he was young boy. AGB learned the visible speech from his father and it influenced his philosophy about oralism for the deaf people. A school in Boston invited him to train some of the teachers the visible speech. Two years later he became a professor at Boston University. He lived in USA for many years before he moved back to Canada. He demanded the American deaf students learn oralism at schools. They established the AGB Organization for the Deaf in America. Thank God we are in Canada.

80 percents of Deaf children will have inserted cochlear implants that means it will increase the precents of them failing education and becoming very isloated.
They will face many psychological issues. Their lives will be at risk. We are not going to stand back and do nothing. We will continue and fight for Deaf children's birthrights and for them to receive the best bilingual education. It is easier for some Deaf people to critize and complain about a group like Deaf Bilingual Coalition wanting the best for our Deaf children rather than taking action and doing it.
AGB is responsible for corrupting our educational system. Still today, ABG organization has a full control of the Media, Medical and educational establishment. They are collaberating with cochlear implant industries. The mission of AGB organization is to eliminate the Deaf community and Sign Language. After the oral system had taken over, The Deaf education had been declined.
Cochlear implant industries stalk us like a fruit fly and promotes about free insurances of cochlear impants which should be a part of comestic, not health insurance.
There are millions children with no healthcare and we have this luxury to use this insurance which it is not a matter of life and death. They know the more Deaf people gets cochlear implant, the more they earn profits.
Comestic world earn the profit but expect for people to pay out of their own pockets.

Great job on condensing the history of AG Bell and it is surely a reminder on the original intent of the organization. Although, it is "evolved", the name still carries AG Bell's legacy.
But allow me to play devil's advocate. Today, there is a mixed breed of members who use sign language or pure oral method. That's where a difference is noted and I am not sure if it can be compared to "Hitler's organization" since the members would be entirely Aryan supporters and not even one will be member of a Jewish clan whereas there are deaf members and even some sign language members in AGBAD. They claim that they have "soften" up and no longer are against sign language. But I know, I know, it is the name that carries the reputation, the philosophy and the beliefs of the organization.
We need to update a list on these actions taken by AGBAD to justify that Eugenics are happening today. Partnership with CI industry is a weak example, in my opinion, because it is considered acceptable to the majority of hearing people even deaf people whether we like it or not. We need to focus on preserving ASL and Deaf culture among the CI receipants than to fight against because if we do, we are going to lose a waging war.
From what I see, the upcoming protest will have pros and cons. There will be attempts to brand the "mob" in a bad name (remmy how I. King Jordan labeled the protesters?) and that the hearing media will be publishing stories that may be one sided or biased (remmy Washington Post?). This is my greatest fear on the outcome of the protest.
We got a lot to discuss about the concerns as brought up in the DCblog. I do support the cause but I want to see it more in place.

For 127 years, Deaf leaders were being very polite and trying to reason everything why we are doing this. It's time for us to be more assertive and take action.
The media and narrow minded people would call the protesters every names they can find in dictionary whether they are Black people, foreigners, women, Deaf people, and any minority group. We must take a stand and speak up our rights accessing the bilingual education and America Sign Language.
Deaf Bilingual Coalition is not here to change CI industries or AGB organization. We are here to share the truth and educate the world about education and medical establishments that hurt many deaf children.
Deaf People with CI and Deaf people with diverse background are more than welcome to join Deaf Bilingual Coalition and fight for the rights of Deaf children accessing the bilingual education and American Sign Language.
At AGB protest, We will have interpreters. We will have five different informational flyers to be passed out. We will have spokepeople who will deal directly with media. We will have pre-meetings to discuss what our positions will be and how it will work.
It is everyone's greatest fear to take a stand but it is up to us to overcome our greatest fear and take action.
Please give us a hard evidence where AGB organization have been soften up and no longer are againist sign language. On ABG Website, there is no information abt bilingual education or American Sign language.
AGB organization who has a reputation of eliminating the Deaf community and ASL and has corrupted media, media, education establishments, has soften up on sign Language. Why don't AGB organization change its name of AGB in respect to the Deaf community and to make amends with us by identifying their flaws that hurt Deaf children and work with us towards the Bilingual Education and American Sign Language?

Before I go on- Aidan's pretty much summed it up all, and I have nothing to add to her excellent points.
However, you say "in a few years, 80% of kids will have CIs and have better technological devices." I'm not sure what you meant by that- are you saying that we should just sit back and let more and more Deaf kids grow up without language? That we should just close up shop and ignore our Deaf children's cries, pleas, and needs?
Just because we have language ourselves doesn't mean we shouldn't worry about Deaf babies being denied language and their human rights.
Again, it isn't a superifical protest against TECHNOLOGY or METHODs--- it's more about IDEOLOGY. CIs come with a caveat that Deaf children shouldn't sign. We cannot separate Sign Language from Deaf people (even tho a few would disagree with me).
Veditz said, "The enemies of Sign Language are the Enemies of the True Welfare of the Deaf". My intepretation- if one opposes, ridicules, degrades, denies, or even debates the worth of ASL, s/he oppose the Deaf child as a whole.
Why is SOME hearing/speech still better than a FULL and SIGNING Deaf human???

Did you know in France a group of Deaf took on march to protest against CI recently! In fact, we do not have any language policy and language rights to use ASL under the federal law and NO ASL has been recognized by Education Dept federally because NAD has been shyed away from taking its role in leading into developing language policy and language rights so that ASL could be recognized as protection under the title VII of Civil Rights include Limit English Proficiency but the definition of ethnic needed to make clear for all Deaf as an unique linguistic minority, Secondly there is no Bilingual Educational Research to prove that ASL/ English to support Barb DiGi's arguement. I have not seen any evidence which is insufficient not just from one place more than ten different places to show strong evidience!
I was reading with interest Barb's comment on AGBAD's goals and all.
They may include sign language in their mission just as well as NAD may include oral in theirs. It is about covering ALL communication methods. But what do they really stand for behind their mission statements?
A large oral program in Michigan have received recognition from AGBAD for their program. A parent I met at the store who had a child in that program told me that the program was internationally recognized and got an award from AGBAD. Do we see AGBAD praising bilingual programs or any programs including sign language? I don't think so. Now do you see NAD touting oral educational programs? So far I haven't heard of any. They have gotten involved with that court case where that aforementioned program in Michigan attempted to have a young deaf child get cochlear implants against the mother's wishes. I haven't seen any role from AGBAD in that situation and I was there at the trial.
So I would look at their actions and what they truly advocate and where they put their focus on.
I enjoyed watching your Gallaudent documentary and vlog about Alexander Graham Bell. I was surprised to learn that he tried to eliminate deaf people like us but it's all over! Hmm..thank god! Eh?

I agree with DE about Patrick Boudreault, he has lot of experiences in various of lingusitic, deaf culture, deafhood, and more more. He is not Bi-Bi but FOUR languages in French, English, LSQ and ASL. If you want to check his website, I suggest you read his website.

CLARIFICATION: AGB did NOT invent the telephone. Antonio Meucci(Italian-American) actually invented it and filed a patent but his wife sold some of his patents because of his health reasons (I do not remember exactly)..
In 2002, US House of Representatives (H. Res. 269) declared that AGB's patent for the telephone was based on "fraud and misrepresentation." check out the US House of Rep.. website

The following spring, AG Bell developed five “best practice” criteria based on data collected."
Goal:
To increase awareness of auditory learning and spoken language options and education by ensuring that parents receive UNBIASED information about all available communication options when a child is diagnosed with a hearing loss.
5 Best Practice Criteria:
Parent(s) who have children identified with hearing loss must receive a printed, standardized resource manual that includes clear, objective, explanatory information on each communication option:
a. Auditory-Verbal (Unisensory),
b. Oral or Auditory/Oral,
c. Bilingual/Bicultural (ASL/ESL),
d. Cued Speech, and
e. Total Communication
2. Parent(s) must receive a standardized, printed resource manual from a state-designated representative trained to present the information on communication options in an UNBIASED and impartial manner.
3. Designated representatives who provide information to parent(s) must participate in annual trainings and workshops to develop knowledge of all communication options and topics relating to hearing loss.
4. Interagency agreements, state guidelines and task force committees will provide the mechanism by which parent(s) and children receive cooperative visits and information sharing between early intervention providers, early hearing and detection programs and non-profit agencies providing services to children with hearing loss.
5. Criteria are mandated to be provided in each state as a Best Practice Model.
Now my next question is how many workshops were provided about bilingualism? ASL? They claimed that they are unbiased but we obviously know that the iinformation provided is not well-balanced. They just refer about ASL to NAD since it is not in their speciality while NAD lists almost everything that is pro-AG Bell methods in their website, interesting?
We need to gather workshop topics in the last 5-10 years to see what they have been addressing and to see if they are practicing the criteria as stated.
Although AGBAD is so shrewd enough to avoid any negative commotions on sign language, I found one mere passage about ASL that stated (no scrolling needed on that website
“American Sign Language is a manual communication method taught as a child’s primary language, with English taught as a second language. American Sign Language is recognized as a true language in its own right and does not follow the grammatical structure of English. This method is used extensively within the Deaf community, a group that views itself as having a separate culture and identity from mainstream hearing society.
For more information, contact the National Association of the Deaf."
Although short and sweet, they did include ASL in their website.
In addition, they did mention something about Children Legal Advocacy Program (CLA)
that they complained that there is not enough oral practices (exactly the opposite of what you just presented). They said:
"Access to spoken language education is denied as a result of inappropriate placement.
These cases involve either public or private school placements where the school district refuses to place the child in a program that will enable the child to acquire a spoken language education.
Instead, the placement offers an ASL-based program, a Total Communication program or a mainstreamed classroom without needed support services."
In conclusion, their strong advocate is to ensure every deaf child deserves aural/oral practice instead of using ASL only. I have yet seen any claims against ASL from AG Bell and that will be their defense. However, action speaks louder than words and this is what we have to prove. It is amazing that they are taking on this platform since I bet there are far off MORE deaf children deprived of ASL than ORALISM.
I am not here to argue with you since my sincere support is behind all of you. I am just interested to be educated more about what AG Bell already had mentioned about ASL and the last thing we would want to look like ignorant fools where they will snicker saying that we are making assumptions. All we need is hard-core facts to back us up.
