COUNTRY SIGNS/ THE ETHNICS of "EMBRYO DESIGN"

In a response to NOAH and KIM about country signs, not all African are black. Not all culture and Languages are based on their skins or human features. It is important that we compromise with other countries and at the same time we keep our ASL. In the future, we will design our embryo. Of course almost all hearing parents and some Deaf parents find out that their embryo are Deaf, then they would add the hearing cells on their embryo. But wait... We can design our babies by adding Deaf cells on it. My dream is to produce more Deaf babies as possible. Deaf people and Deaf community are beautiful! We need to encourage Deaf scientists to find a way to produce Deaf babies.

You are right, not all people who live in Africa are black...it shows that we are not familiar with geography (from what I understand, we flunk geography easily if we are given the test to see how much we know about the world!)

Deaf babies... no comment, since I know that the world will not allow it :-(. But, the idea of designing/engineering a baby does spoil fun and surprise. I'd rather be surprised at the birth... if he/she is hearing, fine. He/she is deaf, fine. As long as the baby is healthy...

That you use the word "ethics" shows that you are aware that it may not be considered good ethics to design babies to be deaf.

Positive notions aside, it is not good ethics to have babies be deaf on purpose since it is a hearing world and one wants one's children to have the best of opportunities. What will these children say when they grow up and realize that their parents deliberately limited their functions?

Let's not lose sight of the real purpose of childbearing: have the strongest, healthiest, and most balanced children possible, and to take all the surprises in stride.

Not me! I would rather have a surprise baby than being sued by my child that may be upset or disappointed with me that I strived to have a deaf child and he/she was not happy being deaf. This is a very risky business.

A perfect world could be where we could design our children but unfortunately we dont have that so I don't want to bear the responsibility of making decisions about how to design my child.

Thanks for bringing it up!

South Africa does not only all the pure blacks living in that countries! I really thank you for bringing up!

"Embryo Design", God create these people on the earth. Who would allow the Embryo Design? The con professional knows that will be very risky business. I remember that movie "Robot Cop", it does look good everything (walk, talk, work, play) but that machine body acts up strangely, killed the innocent children, adults. I prefer choose a real natural baby at birth with DEAF with no CI or hearing.

Hello, I know it is hard situation for all of us to discuss about this topic.

If hearing people can design their babies so we can design our babies. I never lost anything in my life. I love to be DEAF. Being Deaf is not limited to our function. Hearing society limit our function. I will expand on this in next Vlog.

In perfect world, Hearing and Deaf socities are equal and both of them as a hearing person and as a Deaf person are the most beautiful and healthy thing in the world. THey have access to both languages. We are allowed to make a choice between Deaf or Hearing baby. I would have chose Deaf baby, of course. I enjoy to be around Deaf children and adults so much. I find it nothing wrong for wanting to producing more Deaf children on this earth.

As for now, we don't have a choice, and I born to hearing child which is no problem for me. I would still love a hearing child as much as I love a Deaf child.

There are plenty beautiful hearing children out there. Thats why I choose a Deaf child over a hearing child.

Diane: I don't feel right that we design any baby but if the law allow us then we can design baby as Deaf.

Hearing people are allowed do that but it is wrong for Deaf to do that. That is irony as Amy said in her vlog abt hearing babies learn signs but Deaf babies are not allowed to learn signs. I think it is discrimination for people telling us not to redesign baby from hearing to Deaf and we are WRONG to do that. I find it very interesting.

Yes, it is very hard topic to discus. I don't see why not having Deaf babies in this world!

Good topic about that!

Congratulations on completing your finals!!!

I envy you for taking a nice break this summer and riding on your bike, being freeeeeeee like a bird!! :)

Not me....sigh. Going full time this summer and going all the way till I graduate NEXT year. *sniff sniff*

Anyway, I agree with Oscar - it won't happen for the reasons he listed.

AND yes, AMERICA would be a much better place for BOTH deaf and hearing people if there was a law passed like English for all the learn English AND ASL!!

Everything else is accessorized (stealing from John Egbert *wink*).

There would be less wars and most definitely LESS misunderstanding...and here's the beautiful part, MORE various jobs available to ALL deaf people!!

Too bad a few people continue to attack other people like Karen and start campaigning on ASL itself as a mandatory in ALL elementary schools all the way to high schools!!

What are the odds of working with bosses or co-workers who are fluent in ASL in 18 years if we were to have this law NOW?

Hmm.

Anyway....enjoy your break, Aidan. :)

Aidan,

Have you heard that some men with highest IQ have agreed to donate
their sperm to mothers who want to have a genius baby?

I just watched Noah's vlog response...

It was funny watching you yawn, Noah!!

Yeah, the famous melting pot analogy... but ahh, too often we get forked instead of being stirred, ya know? Or forking others, for that matter... ;)

LOL.
